This letter is written on "The United Crafts" stationary. He is thanking Markham for wanting to write about the character and meaning of the old Mission Architure of California. They would like him to change it a little and write about the mission style furniture made during that time.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
